Special opportunity to help in Ukrainian crisis

Dear friends.

As you already know, around 5 am on the morning of February 24, 2022, our neighbor, Ukraine, woke up to a large-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. People did not wake up to work or school by alarm clocks, as usual, but unfortunately by the sirens that announced the worst at that moment. Attack on their home.

Since the beginning of the invasion, Russian military operations have focused on the entire country, especially on military infrastructure. The tanks began to seriously cross the border from Belarus, from the east from the Russia and in the south from the Crimea. The whole world, and we could watch it all live. Even today, we are witnessing this struggle for freedom and bare lives. It is so heartbreaking to see a father and son say goodbye to a mother and children on the Slovak-Ukrainian border. Maybe they gave one last kiss and a hug, but each step in a different direction afterwards.

These are dark days for our entire region, for our neighbor, for all Ukrainians, brothers and sisters in Christ, and for our precious team of missionaries from our partner organization EPOCHA in Ukraine. Likewise, in Slovakia, EPOCHA in Ukraine is part of the God's movement among youth. Thanks to EPOCHA, the people of Ukraine are not just numbers. They are specific names, concrete faces, concrete relationships, concrete stories.

Some of our Ukrainian associates from western Ukraine are helping hundreds of Ukrainians fleeing danger. Two of those families live in areas that have recently been invaded. Our friends stay in western cities to support our Ukrainian team and local churches.

It is so painful and incomprehensible in our minds to see children who have been part of our Fusion music, EDGE and English camps this last summer suddenly become men, soldiers who are holding guns for the first time and do not know whether will return home to their families.

Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine and with our dear Ukrainian brothers and sisters. We are deeply saddened by the injustice and suffering they are facing.

We are very encouraged that many of you are already helping through personal contacts, churches or various organizations. You are an inspiration and we are glad that we can join you in the same effort.

Here are some specific things we can do together:

Here is the contact form for the HELP THROUGH TCKOMPAS

Your donation can save lives of people of Ukraine.

1. Pray

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Ján 16:33

  • for the church: protection and empowerment of believers. They are the personification of Jesus for the needy in their neighborhood. Energy for men who had to enlist.
  • for the political situation: for a peaceful solution, wisdom, clarity and courage to react / defend
  • for the Epoch mission team (and other missionaries, organizations): their safety as well as efficiency to serve in this challenging time

We also pray:

  • against fear and anxiety
  • for awakening for the kingdom of God to grow in the midst of chaos,
  • that we may have the courage to speak of the eternal Hope we have with the people around us

Slovakia is a neighboring country to the Ukraine. We want to be here for them, we want to help. Ukrainian refugees are coming to Slovakia. They are mostly families without fathers, husbands. These families, individuals have nowhere to go. They packed their entire into their trunks and came to save their lives.

We can offer them accommodation. We focus primarily on Ukrainians from our partners and their friends. If you want to help in this way, fill in the following form. We work with other organizations (JV, INTEGRA) to help arrange accommodation for these people.

We are also aware that several initiatives are currently underway in Slovakia, so you can join specific other organizations.

4. Encourage

People around us handle this situation in different ways. Students, teenagers and children are particularly vulnerable. For most of them, this is their first close experience with:

  • war
  • uncertainty
  • anxiety
  • excessive stress
  • strong misinformation - hoaxes

What you can do and how you can help:

  • encourage them
  • listen to them
  • take an interest in their feelings
  • bring facts - from verified sources
  • bring hope
  • study this topic, watch the webinars

Here is a recent piece of communication from Ben Williams (JV Ukraine - EPOCHA):

This nation is no stranger to war, trial, and hard times; its eastern border with Russia has been under attack since 2014. However, the intensity of the Russian army infiltrating from north, south, and east makes this situation different. While we are all still absorbing this shock, our team in Ukraine has also been active in seeking the Lord and joining together to make many important decisions today. We are so proud of our team.

We love Ukraine so much; the heartbreak is overwhelming for us all right now. At the same time, our team has been meditating on the living Psalms of David in his darkest hours. We cling to the promises of the presence of our Lord. He is just and fair and rules over evil.

"Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD."
Psalm 27:11-14

Please join us in praying for the people of Ukraine in this difficult season.
